After Benches at Dovecot Studios

TPhillips BalconyHang7.2015

From now until the end of 2015 there is a rare chance to see Tom Phillips's After Benches tapestry on display at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.

Founded in 1912, the studio evolved from the renowned William Morris Craft Studio at Merton Abbey in Wimbledon. Dovecot is unique for its highly creative collaboration between artist, weaver and commissioner. Each tapestry combines the creative ideals of all three creative minds and the weaver will interpret, rather than simply translate, a design into textile.

In 1946, the studio established a reputation as a leading contemporary fine art tapestry studio, producing tapestry and rugs for private and public collectors. Renowned artists such as Stanley Spencer, John Piper, Eduardo Paolozzi, Frank Stella, RB Kitaj, Patrick Caulfield, David Hockney and Tom Phillips have worked with the weavers to produce significant works.

You can read about the making of After Benches here.

Over the Summer Dovecot will host a number of other exhibitions and there is also a shop and café. Opening hours 12-3 Mon-Sat or by appointment. During Edinburgh Festival 7th - 31st August Dovecot Studios are open 7 days a week 10.30 - 5.30pm.
