Concerto Grosso

Concerto Grosso, pastel

A feast of Tom Phillips's music – compositions by him including his own graphic scores, pieces which inspired him, and music that he loved including songs by Schubert and Schumann – is to be staged in a one-hour event as part of the Oxford International Song Festival this autumn.

The programme will be performed by three outstanding players, former Oxford Song Young Artist Lotte Betts-Dean (mezzo-soprano), pianist Joanna MacGregor and actor Samuel West who joins them to read extracts from Tom Phillips’s writings.

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2023

A group of works by the late Tom Phillips CBE RA in Room VIII of the 2023 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition which opens on Monday 13th June.

Exhibited for here the first time is the original artwork to three Humument pages as well as a single Humument print, bottom left. The large painting reflects the theme of this year's exhibition, "Only Connect", while the silver wire sculpture quotes from Wittgenstein's Tractatus, "The Limits of My Language are the Limits of my World".

“I Wish . . . ” is an exhibition and auction being run throughout Summer 2023 by the Laurence Sterne Trust, of which Tom was a patron, in Shandy Hall’s 50th anniversary year.

Artists and writers have created an artwork based on ‘I Wish . ..‘ the first two words from Tristram Shandy. Works are being exhibited anonymously and will be auctioned, with bids accepted until 31st August. Each maker has signed their work, but the identity of each artist will only be revealed to the highest bidder.

Each winner will receive a unique work of art, and the proceeds will go towards preserving Shandy Hall for another 50 years. The exhibition is now viewable online, and bids may be made in person or via the auction website.

The exhibition and website will be open for visits and bids until 12 noon on 31st August.

To celebrate the centenary of T. S. Eliot's masterpiece The Waste Land the Folio Society have published a special limited edition of 350 numbered copies with tip-in illustrations by Tom Phillips. The volume is half-bound in vellum blocked in 22-carat gold and printed letterpress, the binding itself designed by Phillips. Each numbered copy has been signed by the artist. This edition is only available in the USA and Canada. The Folio Society have produced a video with further information.
